Quotation Process

When it comes to producing a quality metal stamping or fabrication, the planning and estimating stages are just as important as manufacturing or production. Our Estimators determine the operations and dies to be used in manufacturing your part, only after considering your specified quantity, material type and dimensional tolerances. These three factors will be the major determination of cost.

All of our Estimators have several combined years of HPL manufacturing experience in addition to the extensive "job record histories" compiled in our computerized quoting system. This affords them first hand knowledge at establishing an accurate price in minimal time.

Customer/Supplier Meetings
Sometimes the best way to pin down a design or work out the details of an order, is to meet face to face. Our experienced staff is always ready to offer suggestions which might improve quality or reduce cost.

Designing for Lower Costs
When reviewing your RFQ, we may sometimes make suggestions to simplify your parts design in order to reduce costs. Of course you are the final judge of your requirements and your input is vital to the process.

The 3 Big Factors in Determining Your Cost
As previously mentioned, the 3 biggest factors in determining your parts cost are quantity, material and tolerances. Let's take a closer look at these factors:

Quantities
Because there are several methods and varied costs for producing blanks, holes and forms, knowing 3 things about quantity is very helpful:
  • Initial Quantity - This is the amount of your first order.
  • Re-Orders - Your anticipated quantity and frequency of future orders
  • The Ultimate Number of Pieces - This may be difficult for you to know, but when you do know your ultimate quantity, let us know too.

Materials
- We need to know material information to properly quote your job. Most drawings clearly identify the required material. Some material specifications can be a problem, resulting in both quotation and production delays. These more difficult material specs can greatly affect cost and usually involve special types, special tempers, non-standard thickness and special thickness tolerances. If your drawings use special internal company material codes, please attach a material specification sheet.

Tolerances
- Practical tolerances vary according to the design of the part, its ultimate use, the size of the part, the operations to be performed and the material to be used. This really means that each part has its own practical tolerance. But generally speaking, the tighter the dimensional tolerance, the higher the cost will be. Engineering - HPL can engineer a new order very rapidly thanks to standardized operations and our manufacturing systems. In less then an hour, first time orders have been analyzed and operation sequences applied.

CAD Knowledge
HPL Stampings Inc accepts practically all CAD drawings and software types. Our estimating team has over 126 years of combined experience. This means you're going to get a fast, accurate quotation.
